I can’t believe that Easter is just around the corner. I love this time of the year. The kids especially enjoy a bit of Easter decorating, and I thought I would share what we have out with you.
Starting outside in the kids’ play area….
I picked up this cute chalkboard bunting from the local variety store the other day. I love bunting, and the idea of being able to change the message on it to suit the occasion, is perfect. I added it to the grass bunting I have already slung in our outdoor play area. The rabbit wall art I picked up at a local gardening store.
There are also lots of families of bunnies throughout the house. The boys hate the idea of anyone being lonely.
As well as looking pretty, these baskets of plastic eggs are used in some educational games with the kids. You can see some of my Easter inspired educational games here.
So there you have our Easter decorations so far. I say so far, because the boys will no doubt find something else we, “Just have to have.”
Do you decorate your house at Easter?
I hope you all had a very enjoyable Easter. The four-day weekend was a great opportunity to catch up with friends and indulge in some extra special treats. This year I chose just a few sweet things to make over the weekend and they were more than enough. I though I would share what I created with links to the recipes.
Firstly, the most decadent baked caramel filled cheesecake. I will be making this again very shortly. We all loved it!
My own take on Cinnamon/Snickerdoodle Cupcakes. I love anything cinnamon.
The kids decorated their own cupcakes with the decorating kits I picked up at Kmart. They had lots of fun.
And what Easter would be complete without Hot Cross Buns? These are mini ones I made in the Thermomix.
What treats completed your Easter?
Now that I have been on a bit of a roll creating the Activity Bags for the kids, I had to make some Easter themed ones. You can see some of my other activity Bag posts here and here.
There is an abundance of Easter themed crafting items about at the moment so it was really easy to create these activities. Take a look….
Easter Egg Word Creation. A 3 letter word and picture clue.
Easter Egg Colour Match. Match the top and bottom part of the egg to the picture.
Easter Egg Number Match. Place the correct number and colour of pom poms into the numbered egg.
Easter Egg Colour Match. Place the correct coloured egg yolk into the egg.
Easter Symbol Sequencing. Match the sequence on the cards using the correct symbols.
These fun activities live in an Easter gift bag by the garage so we can grab it when we are heading out.
With Easter holidays starting at the end of this week, I can see these will get a good workout before Easter arrives.
Have a great day.
I LOVE Hot Cross Buns. Unlike others who groan at their appearance in the supermarket on Boxing Day, I am excited.
In the past I have had a few attempts at making my own, but I have never been able to master the texture. They have either been too dense or too dry.
Last week though I made the best Hot Cross Bun I have EVER eaten! They were light, soft and perfectly spiced. Full of fruit and delightful with some butter.
After hearing it’s amazing reviews, I used the recipe from the Thermomix Everyday Cookbook. Making them in the Thermomix made the task so simple – all the more reason to bake them all the time. If you don’t have a Thermomix there is no reason why you can’t make these in a stand mixer or with good ol’ elbow grease. You can find a version of this recipe here.
To make these little baked goods healthier for my family, I used spelt flour and stevia to sweeten. Quirky Cooking also makes some healthy substitutions to this recipe which you can see here.
Seriously, if you like Hot Cross Buns, go make this recipe – NOW. You will not be disappointed!
I am a sucker for a cute Easter decoration. I have picked up a few bits and pieces in the last week and I have my eye on a few more. Here is what I have bought so far. Where possible I have included a link to the store where you can buy them….
This cute Easter egg garland.
A pair of hanging Easter eggs.
This set of Easter bunnies. They remind me a little of the “Guess How Much I love You” storybook.
These crockery sets for the kids. I have been searching for some Easter themed crockery for the kids for years. It is virtually non-existent. If you are Australia and know of anywhere that is selling Easter crockery, I’d love to know too!
And finally, we now have a family of mossy bunnies.
We only have a week and a half of school left before we break for Easter holidays. I can’t wait! I love this time of the year.
A few weeks back I found these great Easter cupcake boxes and wrappers at Big W. I thought that they were so cute that I had to buy a stash to use for neighbour’s and friend’s Easter gifts.
I made a batch of vanilla cupcakes ( I thought it might be a nice change from chocolate at Easter) and decorated the tops with the cutest mini candy-shelled eggs.
Very simple but I think they look gorgeous. I just love how they look snuggled in their special carry box.
I hope everyone enjoys them. I am off to deliver them now so they can be gobbled up for morning tea.
Last Easter I posted about a new Easter tradition we started that involved planting a garden with Easter Egg Seeds. You can read the original post here.
Basically, what happens is that at some point before Easter, the Easter Bunny leaves my kids a packet of seeds to plant in the yard. If they are good and very lucky, they will grow into Easter eggs by Easter Sunday.
The Easter Bunny left our seeds for us to plant today.
Master O is taking his gardening role very seriously, watering and watching for any growth. We are certain that a few eggs will sprout before Sunday ;)
While on the topic of preparing and looking forward to Easter, we had a little poke around the shops this morning and bought some Easter decorations on sale. I think they are just adorable, so I had to share them with you.
These lovely bunnies cost me just a few dollars each at Bed, Bath and Table.
And this ceramic Easter egg, also from Bed, Bath and Table, pairs nicely with my big bunny and is perfect for holding chocolates for our guests to help themselves to.
There were so many lovely decorations on sale that I know I will cave and be back to buy more before the end of the week. Stay tuned!
