Cupcakes and Pinwheels Party

Cupcakes and Pinwheels Party

Last week we had an afternoon tea birthday for my niece who turned 5.  We gave the party a pink, yellow and blue colour palette and a cupcakes and pinwheels theme.  It was a small family affair and an unexpected surprise for the birthday girl.

Today I thought I would share with you some pictures of our little party as a follow-up to the decoration tutorials for the paint chip garland and pinwheel table runner I shared with you previously.

We set up the dining room table with hot pink table wear  and the cutest pink polkadot napkins.    The table was finished off with the pinwheel table runner.

Since making these pinwheels I have so fallen in love with them that I made more to hang on the wall.  I clustered them in an abstract fashion behind the table.  It looked really effective and cute.  I will certainly be remembering this decoration idea for the future.

Taking pride of place on the table was a giant cupcake cake.  It was my first go at one of these and despite running short on time it turned out quite well and it was fun to make.  Master O had fun helping to decorate the top with Smarties.  The cake was decorated to match the pinata that the kids couldn’t wait to demolish.

We also had a few jars of lollies and biscuits set up to tempt the taste buds of the adults while they had their afternoon tea or coffee.  I put up the paint chip garland in the background here as well as a few half pinwheels.

Even though it was a small family affair, giving the party a theme and adding a few cute decorations made it special.  Well worth a little extra effort.
